When you choose to lead a healthy lifestyle, you’re also setting a positive example for the people around you — especially important to the young ones in your life.

Practice these good-for-everyone habits for an active, healthy lifestyle:

  • Make healthy “anytime” foods readily available. Have fruit and cut veggies, whole grain crackers, nuts or seeds, or lean protein such as tuna, yogurt, or hard-boiled eggs on hand.

  • Go green. If you have the space, plant a garden or use outdoor containers to pot your produce. Fresh produce is tasty, plus growing your own is environmentally and economically smart. And you can include the whole family for some camaraderie and fun. Giving your kids a plant to take care of will get them excited to eat what they’ve grown.

  • Choose family-friendly activities. Take a bike ride along a trail or go for a walk after dinner. Play a round of basketball or head to a local park for a game of baseball.

  • Cook with your kids. Research has shown that involving children in shopping and cooking can improve their eating habits.
