Healthy Getaways - Tuesday, June 18
Vacations are a great time to get away from the hustle and bustle of the work week. If you’re planning on heading out of town, take your healthy habits with you:
Plan weekend excursions. Weekend trips can add variety to any activity routine — go hiking, bring your bikes, or visit a town with walking tours.
Choose a hotel that supports your goals. Many hotels have fitness centers and pools, providing great opportunities for exercise.
Pack for activity. Bring shoes and comfortable clothes for exercise. Add resistance bands, a jump rope, or other light equipment.
Bring snacks for the ride. Have healthy snacks in your carry-on or a small cooler with healthy treats for your car trip.
Order healthfully. Opt for grilled, poached, or baked entrees and lots of vegetables; skip rich sauces or ask for them on the side.
Watch portions. Most restaurants serve 2-3 times actual serving sizes. If you go out, take eat the leftovers at another meal.
Vacations are meant to be fun and relaxing. But healthy eating and physical activity don’t have to take a back seat when you travel.
