University of Denver research found that couples who spend more time together — away from financial, family, or other stresses — are more likely to survive marital or partnership crises.

One good way to fit in more quality time is to exercise together. Explore a new activity or revisit a favorite:

  • Go for a walk, run, or hike. Take time to focus on each other and strengthen your bond, rediscovering what brought you together.

  • Go for a bike ride. Strap on backpacks with healthy snacks and drinks, and get ready to explore the outdoors side by side.

  • Surf, paddle board, or swim. Spend the day frolicking in the waves together.

  • Play tennis. Get a friendly competition going by playing as partners or opposite each other. If tennis isn’t your game, try badminton, ping-pong, basketball, or a round of golf.

  • Hit the dance floor. Head to a club or sign up for a class. Don’t be afraid to try something different. Salsa, flamenco, hula, ballroom, tango — any form of dance can provide a fun experience you both will enjoy.
