Join others to create a stronger neighborhood network and a better planet using these strategies:

  • Review recycling. Check the list of recyclables and spread the word. Much of your trash, such as milk cartons, aluminum foil, and cereal boxes, can be recycled.

  • Rally to reduce. Recycling is only part of the greener picture; reducing consumption is the bigger goal. For example, refill containers from bulk bins for coffee, spices, rice, beans, and dry pasta. Start a co-op with neighbors to order large quantities directly from wholesalers or growers and reduce individual packaging even more.

  • Rummage and resell. A neighborhood yard sale is a fun way to keep usable goods out of the landfill. Also consider giving unwanted or outgrown items away for free. Even broken machines or stray puzzle pieces may find a home with tinkerers, artists, and crafters.
