Vacation days can’t last forever, but we can take some of that blissful inspiration with us during fitness sessions. Hold on to these lessons:

  • Find the right time. It feels good to move every day: Let your body tell you when to take leg-stretching breaks and when to release stress with a tougher workout. If you keep skipping an early morning walk, switch to the afternoon or evening.

  • Be adventurous. A different setting usually leads to trying something new, so keep that bold spirit at home. If you liked climbing in the mountains while on vacation, find a rock wall nearby. Did you go surfing for the first time? Try stand-up paddling on local waterways. Even exploring a new walking path or signing up for an exercise class can give you a motivating boost toward your fitness goals.

  • Sightsee. Play tourist in your own town to rack up more steps. Try shopping where you can walk to several stores at once or take a trail to lunch. A slower, vacation-style life pace can show you there really is time to walk instead of drive.

How will you spice up your workout this week?
