Most of us could use more relaxation in our lives, but the world doesn’t assign mandatory rest days. So it’s up to you to insert time when you can. Use these tips to calm your nerves and rejuvenate your spirit:

  • Head out to the golf course (unless a bad day on the links gets you down — the point is to chill out, not get fired up).

  • Pick a good book and cozy up in your favorite chair or under a tree.

  • Have a picnic in the park.

  • Hit a day spa, or create your own substitute by taking a long bath, giving yourself a pedicure, or taking turns with your partner to massage each other’s shoulders and neck.

  • Go fishing or just sit out by a lake or stream. Studies find that just interacting with green settings and natural waters can have positive effects on the psyche, including clearing mental clutter, reducing stress, improving attention, and enhancing overall brain function.
