Plan a Walking Outing - Wednesday, January 03
Walking through different neighborhoods and new places of interest in your community is a great way to be active and keep things fresh. But once a month or so, shake things up and plan a longer outing. Some ideas:
State or national parks. Choose a destination with trails for a good challenge. Make a day of it — plan on an early morning walk, then break for a picnic lunch, nature photography, or relaxing in the fresh air; take a long afternoon walk before heading home.
Weekend camping trip. Invite family and friends for a weekend away. Choose a walker-friendly campground with trails, beaches, or other destinations. Many campgrounds are situated near lakes for swimming or offer volleyball pits and tennis courts for even more active choices.
Main Street excursion. Plan a day’s getaway to a city you’ve never visited and tour the downtown on foot. Remember: your main goal is being active, so plan to stroll the streets for a while as you discover unique stores and architecture.
Reliving history. Visit your state’s tourist website and find a town that offers walking tours. Many cities display their legends on sponsored walking tours. Take a day or weekend trip to learn more about another area of your home state.
