Are you comfortable asking neighbors for recipe ingredients or to borrow tools? If not, maybe it’s time to lift the friendly fellowship. Try these tips to make a good neighborhood into a true community:

  • Try a progressive dinner. A dinner party hosted across several homes, each serves a healthy dish then go house to house, sampling the bounty.

  • Start a home-grown theater. Host movie nights, using a garage door or side of a house as the screen. Alternate which home gets to pick the flick — and don’t forget the popcorn.

  • Schedule an annual helping hands weekend. Gather a crew to help each other with household projects, from fixing pipes to planting to mending a fence. The area will look beautiful and you’ll strengthen bonds.

Fall is upon you. Torch up that fire pit and invite the neighbors.
