Add a dash of excitement to your fitness program by signing up for a fun run or walk, bicycle race, or multi-sport event — check out Active.com or your parks and recreation department for local events.
Depending on your current physical activity level, pick an event 1-3 months out — plenty of time to get ready. Better yet, get a friend to sign up and train with you to motivate and energize your workouts.
Make a pledge. Once you submit your entry form and fee, you’re tasked with getting ready by race day.
Visualize success. Knowing that each workout is preparing you for the big event allows you to sweat with a new sense of purpose — you want to cross the finish line feeling good.
Take a bow. You’ll complete the event, exhausted and exhilarated, with a unique sense of accomplishment. You made it happen — be proud!
Don’t worry about coming in last. Train hard, race smart, and you’ll finish with your pride intact — and a smile that will light up a stadium.
