Besides boosting your energy and brightening your day, physical activity has a holistic effect on mind, body, and spirit — improving quality of life and ability to continue doing what you enjoy. Staying active may also help you slow or even reverse aspects of the aging process. It’s never too late to get fit and feel your best.
Adjust: As you journey through life, your body changes. Make accommodations that match the needs of each stage. Incorporate strength, flexibility, and aerobic training to keep your muscles and bones strong, your mobility at the max, and your metabolism up.
Engage: Keep your workouts fresh and fun. Try something new to mix up your routine. Look for activities you genuinely enjoy. Listen to your favorite music or watch a movie as you ride a stationary bike. Take part with others — not only can they hold you accountable, but the social support helps spur motivation.
Build: Something is always better than nothing, so if creaky knees are keeping you off the courts, take up swimming or biking — movement is movement, and it all pays off.
